In 1988, an ordinary and unremarkable businessman named Oh Dae-su is arrested for drunkenness, missing his daughter's fourth birthday. A childhood friend bails him out and calls his wife. While they talk, Oh Dae-su disappears. He finds himself imprisoned in a windowless room for fifteen years.
