The Ladder of Ivanova

In a remote village, so isolated that it is not on Russia's map, Sisoy passes down the tradition of Byzantine chanting to his son Ivan. Their hermit-like family life is filled with concerns for their own sustenance and strict spiritual practices, which seem dedicated to preparing the adolescent for what appears to be the only path in life.
