This is a portrait-film dedicated to Aleksey German. Fragments from Gerasman’s films, personal photographs and archival footage reveal numerous sincere, almost confessional moments, allowing viewers to glimpse behind the scenes into the inner world of the great Master. In one episode, the protagonist recalls with a smile how he was once beaten by bullies at school, but after standing up for himself, they never dared touch him again. Aleksey German never dreamed of becoming a director. However, despite his films being sent "to the shelf," he became an acclaimed artist who transformed the country's cinema. The shoot took place both at Aleksey Yuryevich's home—his attic apartment on Kronverksky Prospekt—and in the editing room of Lenfilm Studio. Director Alexander Pozdnyakov had known German for over twenty-five years, yet even he discovered many new things about the master.
