Near future, year 2032. Technology has reached unprecedented progress, humans share the world with cyborgs and robots. Batou is a detective in the anti-terrorist police department. He is a living cyborg equipped with artificial arms, legs, and other body parts. Only his original brain remains along with memories of her, Motoko Kusanagi.

 

Together with his partner Togusa, Batou investigates a series of murders committed by robots against their owners. All the robots involved are experimental sex android models produced by the company Locus Solus. The company would prefer to hush up the matter by recalling the robots from the market and negotiating with the victims' relatives. But Batou and Togusa aren't the type who can be bought off easily.
