Modern Times

"Modern Times" is an emotional, comedically-tinted response to the distortions of the machine age. The Little Tramp does not want to be a "cog" in the vast mega-machine of industrial production and human society that resembles him so much. Charlie fights against stupid rich people, all-powerful police officers, soulless bosses of assembly-line production.

Sometimes he wins these battles, but more often loses, ultimately fearlessly facing the dawn. Although "Modern Times" is considered Charlie Chaplin's last silent film, it is here that the Little Tramp gains his voice for the first and last time.

However, he did not speak, but sang in the final scenes of the movie, symbolizing farewell to the beautiful era of silent cinema.
