Mr. Deeds Goes to Town

Longfellow Deeds, a bumpkin from Vermont, inherits a vast fortune from his uncle and becomes known nationwide overnight. The entire town gathers at the train station to bid farewell to Deeds, a poet who plays the trumpet, as he heads to New York to take possession of his uncle's capital and move into a huge mansion.

Cynical newspaperman MacWade does not believe in the image of a simple honest man created for Deeds in the press. He assigns beauty Babe Bennett to interview the guy and gives her clear instructions.

The journalist pretends to faint at the entrance to the mansion. Chivalrous Deeds picks her up in his arms and takes care of her. She tells him she's lost her job and gradually begins to extract information...
